We finally know when we’ll get our first, sweet taste of soccer in the South Carolina Upstate.
Soccer fans in the South Carolina Upstate (like myself) finally know when we will get our first, sweet taste of soccer in Greenville.
Greenville FC announced last week it will play an exhibition match against nearby Anderson University at 7 p.m. March 24 at the Kroc Center in Greenville. The match will come one day after the team’s open tryouts, and will feature some of the trialists.
While it is not exactly the full Greenville FC team, and it is not exactly a competitive match, this will be the fans’ first taste of what the team will look like — an amuse-bouche to prepare the palate for the upcoming inaugural season.
The event is free and fans are encouraged to show up in numbers. The Mill Town Operatives supporters group is already in the process of planning its first official tailgate for the event.
The team also announced that there will be official Greenville FC merchandise available for purchase at the match.
Following the announcement of the exhibition against the Trojans, Greenville FC announced that the open tryouts were full and registration had closed. Interest in the team — and playing for the team — is clearly high, and it will be exciting to see the squad play in just a few short weeks.
