We made Soccer Night in Greenville happen. Now, who wants to go?
September 12, 2018: That was the day I saw an intriguing tweet from the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the Upstate’s ECHL hockey team.
The team was finalizing promotions for the season and had decided to leave the last theme night up to fans.
And where do all great brands go for fan feedback? Twitter, of course!
The team ran a poll to choose the theme of “Fan’s Choice Night” to be held on October 27. The choices were Nurses Night, Halloween Night (undoubtedly the odds on favorite), and SOCCER NIGHT!!!
I knew what had to be done. I needed to harness the power of soccer Twitter, Yeah THAT Soccer Show, and our SNST Slack family to make soccer night happen.
After 402 votes were cast, Soccer Night narrowly beat out Halloween Night!
The team announced details Monday evening: As a part of the promotion, fans can get $4 off of their ticket for Saturday’s game by showing up to the box office in a soccer jersey. There will undoubtedly be a number of Greenville FC jerseys in the crowd Saturday as well as plenty of EPL and USMNT jerseys.
Who knows? You may even catch a few of us in our Soccer ‘n’ Sweet Tea kits!
The team is also promising a variety of soccer-related promotions during timeouts and intermissions. There will even be an on-ice soccer game during the first break.
Greenville FC and Greenville Triumph SC are both promoting the event and are expected to be a part of the evening’s festivities.
I was also able to sit down with the voice of the Swamp Rabbits, Jordan Kuhns, and Director of Game Operations and Community Events Michael McFadden for a special edition of Yeah, THAT Soccer Show discussing the game on Saturday. Michael is a former soccer player, an avid Manchester United fan, and the reason “Soccer Night” was included as an option in the fan vote. Make sure you listen and subscribe.
So make plans to come out to Bon Secours Wellness Arena this Saturday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. for Soccer Night with the Swamp Rabbits! $12 tickets are still available through Greenville FC’s link… here.
