One of the most exciting things to come from the sudden influx of soccer awareness and fandom in the upstate has been a rising interest in youth development. With local teams at the semi-professional and professional levels, kids in Greenville can now aspire to play for their hometown teams.
In an effort to better train and equip these future stars, and to make high quality soccer training available to all, Greenville FC have announced the launch of Greenville FC Academy.
The academy will be funded by sponsorships with local businesses and revenue from the NPSL team. The academy is open to players ages 8-12 and will run in conjunction with the NPSL season. Students will have the opportunity to receive training from GVLFC players and staff during their time in the academy.
As someone who desires to see the United States Men’s National Team win a World Cup in my lifetime, I think programs like this are a huge step in the right direction. By facilitating a love for the game and equipping players with the essential skills to further their development, this academy will foster in a generation of players that will continue the sport’s momentum in this country.
Parents of children interested in signing up for the first year program can complete the interest form here.
