PREVIEW: Greenville Triumph SC vs. Tormenta FC [US OPEN CUP]

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is starting its 106th edition this week. The tournament started in 1914 and has been going strong ever since. This year, a team from Greenville enters the fray as the Greenville Triumph will host USL League One rivals South Georgia Tormenta on Wednesday night in the first round. If they win, the Triumph would host USL Championship side Charleston Battery next Wednesday. But before we start planning the Palmetto Derby, let’s look at what to expect in round one. Winter is Here: Triumph split the points with the Mingos

On Saturday evening, the Greenville Triumph took on the Flamingos of Forward Madison in their snowy home opener. After a 30 minute delay to kickoff, the two team’s battled in what can only be described as a tale of two halves. At the end of the 90 minutes, however, neither side was able to notch the go-ahead goal and instead split points in a 0-0 draw.
